The classic brooches have no motif at all. One stone held in a plain silver frame, and these are the pieces carrying the biggest stones of the collection.

How is a JewelPin Silver Brooch Put Together? 

Behind the body of every brooch, there are three parts, and all of them are made in silver at our unit.

• The pin, which passes through the cloth

• The joint, on which the pin turns

• The catch, which closes over the point once the pin is through

The small floral pieces get the plain catch, where the pin slides into a hook and sits there. Heavier designs and anything with a bigger stone get the locking catch, the one with a collar that turns over the pin after it is inside. If a design is listed with the plain catch and the locking one is wanted on your lot, the change is done at the back, and the front of the brooch stays exactly as shown.

Weight, Pin Length and the Cloth the Brooch Goes On

Every brooch page carries the weight in grams. On a brooch, that number should be read more carefully than it is on a pendant, because the piece is hanging off two small holes in the fabric with nothing else supporting it.

A pin which is too long for the body will let the brooch tip forward once it is worn, so the pin length is worked out against the body size at the design stage and not afterwards.

Where the stone is heavy, the silver at the back of the body is thinned, and a slightly thicker pin is used. The heavier designs suit the stores selling knitwear and coat-weight fabric, and the lighter floral pieces are the safer stock for a shop whose customers are buying for fine cloth.

Gold Plated Wholesale Silver Brooches

The gold-plated brooches sit as a separate line with their own item codes, at present in Swiss blue topaz, Ethiopian opal, garnet, and one white freshwater pearl design. The plating goes right over the pin, the joint, and the catch, so the back of the piece matches the front when a customer turns it around on your counter. Where a piece has been made with double cut diamonds, the facet count on the stone is lower than a full cut, which is usual at this size, and it is stated on that product page.

Custom Brooch Manufacturing for Wholesale Buyers in the USA

More of our brooch business is custom than in any other silver item we make. Buyers usually come with the shape already fixed in their head, and that makes this category an easier one for us to work on.

Send the motif in whatever form you have it, a drawing, a photograph, or a picture of an old piece. We make it in silver first and send it across to you before anything is produced in numbers. The stone for each part of the motif is picked by you at that stage, and there is generally one round of correction on the model before it is passed.

An existing design can be taken in a different stone as well, or made bigger or smaller than the page shows, and in that case the pin and the joint are reset for the new size. Costing, along with the delivery days, comes to you once the model has been approved. There is no big first order asked for on the custom brooches.
